Job 5133: Income Tax Manager / Tax Planner
Location City: Boston
Location State: MA
Base Salary: $125,000+ DOE
Bonus & Incentives: Discretionary bonus. Typically
averages 5% of base.
Position Responsibilities: The primary responsibility of
this position is the effective and efficient strategic and tactical
management of the personal and fiduciary tax planning and tax
preparation function on behalf of the Private Client Group and it's
clients. Areas of primary accountability include: 1) Federal and
state individual income taxation and return preparation; 2)
Fiduciary taxation; 3) Partnership tax management strategy; 4) Gift
tax management; and 5) Philanthropic and charitable giving
taxation. The income tax manager oversees and directs all
activities in support of the firm's commitment to determine the
lowest lawful tax burden for the client consistent with appropriate
tax planning considerations. The incumbent is personally
accountable for a group of clients, including client relationships
that embody the greatest tax complexity. Prepares tax returns and
tax information documents, and performs calculations of various tax
scenarios to help guide and assist attorneys with strategic tax
planning. The individual will serve as a member of the management
team of the Trust and Tax Services Department supporting the
Private Client Group.
Education and Certifications/Licenses: Bachelors
Mandatory Minimum Qualifications: Experience in preparation
of sophisticated individual, fiduciary, and partnership income tax
returns is required, with at least three (3) to five (5) years
direct fiduciary tax experience within a law firm, accounting firm,
or bank trust department. Prior gift and charitable tax experience
required. Familiarity with computerized tax preparation software
systems is required. ¨ Two (2) to four (4) years of proven
leadership and functional management experience of both a strategic
and tactical nature are required.
Preferred Qualifications: ESSENTIAL CAPABILITES *Ability to
strategically improve and direct the current and long-term
management of the Income Tax Department particularly as related to
process improvement and quality management. * Ability to lead and
direct a growing staff of tax professionals (currently 8 with plans
to hire an additional 1 - 3) relative to day-to-day activities,
career development and succession planning. * Ability to
effectively create a motivating work environment in which
individual skills and talents are leveraged to fulfill a greater
common good for clients, associates and the firm. * Ability to
function effectively in a matrix management environment with the
partners and counsel of the Private Client Group. * Ability to be a
proactive self-starter, one who understands and is able to
interpret and apply day-to-day details within a broader context. *
Ability to be flexible and to respond quickly and positively to
shifting demands and opportunities. Has the ability to work under
tight deadlines and handle multiple detailed tasks. * Ability to
work in a collaborative style and environment. Must be
team-oriented and able to share information, goals, opportunities,
successes and failures with the appropriate parties. * Ability to
plan, organize and carry out multiple related activities. * Ability
to work in a multi-office environment. * Ability to influence
thinking and actions at all levels of the organization. * Ability
to work effectively in a culturally and educationally diverse
environment. * Ability to focus on the details and demonstrate
follow-through.
